Through mutual friend Roslyn Tannenbaum, commercial artist Iris Rabin, a survivor of the Buchenwald death camp, met and married Ancram Hudson IV in 1949. In 1950, she gave birth to twin sons: Ancram V and Hastings. She endured the infamous tradgedy in 1950 (which claimed the life of infant son Hastings) with a dignity that all of New York society commented on.

After Ancram IV's untimely death in 1960, Iris inherited the Hillsdale franchise. For the first time, the character would be handled by licensees with no input from a Hudson family member.

Lieutenant Ancram Hudson lV with family friend Farragut Van Wyck in Townshend Vermont after his return from the Pacific theatre of WW2. Little is known of Hudson's activities during the war, but it is widely believed he served as an intelligence officer. Rumors exist of him running a sort of commando squad composed of Filipino and Chinese Patriots who acted as behind the lines sappers for the advancing American forces. He refused to speak of his experiences in the war except for saying "There are things that should not be seen, and never spoken of".
