Dang, Ancram. The 3 Mekka! Queen Robogrrrl's forces go mano e mecha with the hoarde? I dunno, but whatever you come up with I think I'll be able to keep my mind wrapped around those possibilities. If you all manage to weave The Story of Phil into the ultimate mix, though I think it's "internal consistency" makes it impossible, my weirdass mine will be fecking drek. Almost caused a pile up in fog filled stretch of I-90 going through the Berkshires when my headlights came upon the tail end of a Hampton Jitney van.

Hey Midnight- You might want to re-read the 3 Mekka... - Ancram Hudson

Oh no! The labyrinthine plotting and twisted pacing of Mitch and Ancram have blown over Mike Movie's cinema-dominated reading style. Basically, Mr. Movie, when you think an action sequence has just been dropped, just wait. Reading the entirely of the Starry Ones over two days led me to realize that "we'll get back to that" is the nature of the narration. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if all This Golden Horde stuff doesn't wind up in By the Numbers at some point. Btw, LOVED Zombie Planet. Just wish I knew what the Horde was up to ... I know, I know. Time will tell.

Mitch: Last time I looked, Jitney was locked in mystic battle with the vampire Baron Schwienatem. If he won, I didn't see it, did I miss something? What became of Schweinatem? I expect a triuphant Jitney to extract a horrible revenge, how do you punish an old Nazi vampire who's gone bad? And who is the new Number One? A problematic position to fill, it's been vacated twice now in this story arc. What's wrong with Jitney's judgment? He keeps choosing the wrong guys for this key position. With his centuries of experience, I should expect better of him. If the position is still vacant, I am available, I am Number Nobody here in my present job and grossly underpaid. --Mike

Just got my copy of Ancram & Mitch's "Sympathy for the Devil" and I am really really impressed. $3.00 at http://www.comixpress.com/. Here's what I think: Another winner from Mitch Waxman and Ancram Hudson! For those introduced to Mitch and Ancram's work through their award-winning daily online series The Starry Ones, you are in for a treat: now you can read their work at lunch without having to lug the laptop! Waxman and Hudson have been working together for several years now and they make a great team. Hudson's writing creates believable characters and makes you start to wonder about certain conspiracy theories. Waxman's drawings are, well, in the realm of the truly weird. Mitch's drawing talent brings to life things that maybe shouldn't have been brought to life! And his by now signature combination of 2-D drawings with 3-D computer generated images is even more slick on the printed page than on the computer screen. Buy this book! You won't be sorry. You couldn't ask for a better introduction to truly weird thinking. I'm waiting patiently for the team's next collaboration -- and I know I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Mitch: I really do enjoy your subtexts and cross-references. Lookin' at Jitney today, I can clearly see that he is Daddy Warbucks supernaturalized and villainized. And your German vampire is, of course, Murnau's Count Orlock updated, he really resembles the cinematic Nosferatu in yesterday's drawing. And, following Murnau, who changed the makeup from shot to shot, he sometimes looks more human and at other times looks more creepy and weird. I'll recant slightly on my dislike of the new graphics. Since the transition to Hillsdale's perspective, things are rolling well. However, those initial renderings of Jitney and Ms. 7 ... Well, Ms. 7's hair resembles a blob of wax and Jitney, I think something about whatever you're using to render just doesn't adequately capture cadaverousness. I'm worried the new Mr. One may look too much like a Quake monster in these new renderings, but I'm hooked again on the story.

I must disagree with the midnight platypus and say that the fully rendered visuals are a squillion times better than the cell-shaded ones, and I'm really impressed too, first impressions look even better than the starry ones do, and humans aren't easy to map. Must be a shedload more work but looks so good. Wow wow wowsers!

Man, the "snap" to whatever computer modeling, while a neat gag, I dunno. I prefer my weird ass comics rendered more traditionally rather than in a style reminiscent of animation from early Rock Star Games. Love the story of "By the Numbers" so far, and would love to see more Ms. Seven, ahem.
